About Us > >

The New Deal for Communities (NDC) project is one of the key elements in the Government’s National Strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal. This strategy aims to tackle social exclusion by narrowing the gap between the poorest neighbourhoods and the rest of the country.

About Us

The total value of the NDC programme is £1.9 Billion for what will be a 10-year programme over the life of the partnership. Each area comprises approximately 4,000 households and each partnership will receive between £50 - 56 Million over the 10-year life of the partnership. This is an initiative from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.

The NDC Programme works in 39 of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods in the country. The programme works in areas that suffer from ...

- Poor job prospects

- High levels of crime

- Poor health

- Low educational standards

- Poor housing and environment

NDC Partnerships are firmly based on involvement of the local community, so that the Partnership brings together residents, voluntary organisations and public agencies - all of those who have a contribution to make to the Regeneration of Heywood.

Through elections for Resident Directors and many other forms of involvement, local people are taking the lead in creating their own future. The involvement of residents as our Delivery Plan has been developed ensures that it will meet the community's and individual's needs.

New Heart for Heywood is a New Deal for Communities (NDC) Partnership. On 2nd May 2001, the Government awarded us £52m, based on our first Delivery Plan.

“Our vision is to create a New Heart for Heywood through a series of lasting changes, which will improve the quality of life in the home and on the street for Heywood”
