Great to see the new centres that are proposed for Heywood (sports & health) the artist impressions look great; however I have not seen any plans for economic and environmental sustainability. I feel these issues should be addressed as a matter of urgency before we build our future centres using outdated and not environmentally friendly methods, with energy costs forecasted to increase by 47 percent in the near future, this saving could be passed on to the end user making the facility affordable to families on lower incomes. It would also be a great opportunity for people within the community to gain much needed information about sustainability. Come on planners and community lets move Heywood further up the green scale. Short cuts and savings now will cost heavily in the future, and these centres are promoting the future. I would love to receive responses from planners and the community as a whole - what are your thoughts

Can anyone tell me where Jamie and Adam Van Daalen are ... ?? My Uncle had the Brickhouse pub on Bridge Street many years ago ... I lost contact with Jamie and Adam ... My Email is anjavan_delzen@hotmail.com. Thank you x

Regarding the power failure in Heywood yesterday 10th April. Apparently it was caused by vandals breaking in to the sub station on Tintern Avenue and stealing cable. I wonder why it took over 12 hours for United Utilities to fix the problem and more important why are these potentially dangerous sub stations not securely fenced off from potential acts of vandalism. I hope many like myself will be writing to local reps/mp to raise this matter with some urgency!

To Kathleen Crossley "Why is Heywood called Monkey Town?" Heywood is called Monkey Town because they used to or still have holes in the stools in pubs. (for the tails of monkeys!)

I have just been given a chest of draws made by J.Baker of Bridge St. Heywood. I cant find any record of the firm and was wondering about the people who made it.

Does any one have any memories (pre-war) of a house called vale cottage, or of the Jameson family who once lived there?

I think a lot more CCTV should be put up around Heywood, Hopwood, Summit. I think it is a good deterent for robberies and criminal damage.

I note there is no mention of the fact that petr kane fly-weight boxing champion was born in Heywood, brought up in Golborne. I believe in Bowling Green Street.

I met Mr & Mrs Simpson of Green Lane, Heywood 2 years ago when I was helping to Project Manage an insulation scheme for HHP. I became good friends with this lovely couple as a result of resolving a minor issue with their loft insulation. Mr Joe Simpson (90 yrs in July 06) sadly passed away on Sunday 10th December at 11pm. He was at home, and Marjorie was at his side as he slipped away peacefully. Mr Simpson leaves a wife (Marjorie), and close family members and many friends and I am sure that the community will greatly miss this kind and compassionate gentleman. My sincere sympathy to Mrs Simpson at this time - Joe's funeral is due to take place on Thursday 14th December at Rochdale Crematorium/Cemetry, Bury Old Road, Rochdale OL11 4DG at 11.50am and there will be a few drinks following the service to remember Joe at the Albany pub. Mr Simpson loved his garden and flowers - I will miss him dearly.

I left Heywood in 2000 having used to live on Cherwell Ave. I now live in Newcastle and got re-married in 2003. Although it's a good place to live, I still like to keep in touch with my roots. I think this site is a good way of doing this anybody wishing to get in touch please do so though the site cheers.

just come across your website from a friends e-mail, i think it is just brilliant and will be a regular visitor, what i would love to see is photo comparisons of todays heywood with the photo's of the heywood of the past that you have on your site, side by side, it would be interesting to see the changes and something i could show my children when they are older.

This is a very informative and well designed site. I would like to comment on Hopwood, I have lived in Hopwood for twenty years and all I can say is that this area has gone totally down hill in recent years. I would like to see more police patroling the area, nowadays, I feel scared to walk in my own neighbourhood it is just not safe anymore! People call Hopwood "the posh area" of Heywood, if Hopwood is the "posh area" I don't even want to know what goes on in the rest of the town, it's appalling and quite frankly I would move out of this town if the situation continues!

Hello, I was in Heywood in April 1978 visiting a family that lived at 31 Wolsey St. I am trying to locate members of the family that lived there at the time. If anyone knows how to contact someone from the family it would be greatly appreciated. The mothers nickname was Winnie, as in Winnie the Pooh. Thanks for any help.

I just discovered your website after trying to find where to write to at the Heywood Advertiser. I think your website is brilliant. As I live in Heywood and i am researching my family ancestry it is good to see that finally there is something being done to put the heart back into Heywood, and make it the fine town that it was over 100 years ago when my ancestors lived here. I am learning about the important places and streets of heywood as I reserach my family ancestry. I think the website shows the true vision of Heywood and what it was and what it is now. I will be passing on this website address to my new found cousins in Canada, at least now they can see what Heywood is like now and what it was like from your website. Good website ... I am adding this to my favourites and will be back to visit.

Last year I saw the best young band I have ever seen playing at Heywood Civic. They were called "The Targets". I would urge anyone to go and see these guys, there only 14/15yrs old but a gig they put on1. I would just like to big up the organisers for giving young bands a chance to play live and to prove to people that not all teens are mindless hoodies. If anyone is interested ihave looked them up and their site is www.thetargets.co.uk
