The planning application for the Health Connections Centre and Joint Service Centre was submitted to the planning department of Rochdale Council in February. The plans were approved in May 2008 and work is expected to start on site in June 2008.
About The Project ...
It is a joint project between Heywood, Rochdale and Middleton Primary Care Trust, Rochdale Council and Heywood New Deal for Communities which has invested £3.5million. There has also been a great involvement from members of the community in the plans and they will continue to be consulted in the future.
What’s Happened So Far? ...
Steering Group ...
A steering group was set up “To oversee and strategically coordinate the planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Heywood Health Connections and Joint Service Centre concept recognising the input and needs of all partners involved.” The group initially met in June 2007.
The group currently meets once a month and consists of:
- Project Management (Bolton, Rochdale, and Heywood, Middleton Local Improvement Finance Trust /Eric Wright )
- New Heart for Heywood - NDC Officer
- Primary Care Trust Officer
- R.M.B.C. Officer
- New Heart for Heywood NDC Resident Director
- Township Manager
- NDC Community Health Champion
- Local Councillor
- Patient Public Forum Involvement Officer
- Health Forum Officer

Community Engagement ...
In August 2007 the group visited other similar schemes in the North West to gain visual ideas for the Centre. In September 2007 these visual ideas were taken to the community for their opinions. In October 2007 the group met to consult with the public on the plans so far. In February 2008 the group met to consult with the public on the plans that had been submitted.
The group will be continuing to meet with the public to discuss services in the Centre in the Summer of 2008.
