Police encouraged by communities support in identifying local priorities >>

The Neighbourhood Policing Team at Heywood were encouraged by the number of community members who attended at last weeks Partners and communities together meeting (PACT). Over 40 members of the community met at the newly opened Phoenix Centre on Tuesday 10th November to discuss current crime problems and local issues.

Members of the Neighbourhood Policing Team were joined by colleagues from Rochdale Borough Housing and RMBC community safety officers to listen to the concerns of local residents and agree with them the most important priorities that agencies will target over the next two months. The result  of this work will be reported on at the next meeting in January.

Inspector Darrell Butterworth in charge of Policing in Heywood said, " It was really pleasing to see so many local people prepared to give up their own time to attend the meeting and agree with us what priorities we should be addressing. This is a challenging process for the Police, we must respond to our local communities needs and report back to them at the next meeting on how we have achieved what they have asked for. Previous meetings have resulted in only a small number of people attending but the numbers at last weeks meeting took us all by surprise. It was real community engagement and community problem solving. To use the words of one police  community beat manager, "It was awesome". It is hoped that this new community involvement in the PACT process will continue to grow and become even more successful".

The priorities set at the meeting which the local police will target were ...

- North Ward - Drug dealing, Burglary dwellings and anti social behaviour

- Hopwood Ward - Burglary dwellings, Drive offs from petrol stations and anti social behaviour

- West Ward - Mini motor cycles, youths causing annoyance, and anti social behaviour

The next meeting will take place at the Phoenix centre at 6pm on Tuesday 12th January 2010 and is open to any resident or business owner in the Heywood area to attend.
